The ABC Green Home 2.0 Progresses Forward

Construction continues as The ABC Green Home 2.0 project presented by SoCalGas takes shape. The Net Zero, Affordable, Buildable, Certified (ABC) Green Home is designed to showcase sustainability and energy efficiency best practices to the building industry and the home-buying public when the home enters it’s model home phase once construction is complete.

Viewers have been able to monitor the home’s progress from design through construction by checking in on the live view camera streaming 24/7 on www.abcgreenhome.com; people can get the latest information by watching the ABC Green Home videos on YouTube and reading Green Home Builder magazine by Peninsula Publishing, the company developing the project.Peninsula Publishing provides the architecture and design team services as well as all of the building materials. Habitat For Humanity, Pomona Valley Affiliate is the homebuilder responsible for sourcing the lot and providing most of the labor.

The objecive of the project is to demonstrate it is possible to build very green homes on an affordable budget. The ABC Green Homes are designed as either well-optioned custom homes, or production homes in neighborhoods with different elevations. Any builder can achieve Net Zero results on any lot. By using Habitat volunteers and high school construction program participants, the project has demonstrated buildability.

The 2,486 square foot multi-gen, move up home is designed to house two families. The self-contained, multi-gen master suite one the first floor features living quarters for two adults, while upstairs there is a second master bedroom with two additional en suite bedrooms, and an additional full bath.

All of the building materials used to construct the home were sourced among Green Home Builder magazine’s print and digital advertisers. The ABC Green Home Design Team members include The KTGY Group Architects, Gouvis Engineering, Hall and Foreman, Ripple, Venture One Interiors, DNV, The Southern California Edison Company, and PetersenDean’s Solar4America Program. Over 70 building industry suppliers and service providers have come together to support this high-performance American home building project and veteran’s housing.  The home will be provided to a U.S. Veteran family when the ABC Green Home project team moves on to the next project in the series.
